Eddie L. "Uncle Eddie" Johnson, 72, of Sandusky was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 7, 1937, in Cleveland, Miss., to Dan Ernest and Willie (Williams) Johnson Sr. Uncle Eddie spent most of his adult life in Ohio, but as a youth he also spent time in Illinois and Michigan. He served his country as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army.
After his discharge he went to work as a manufacturer for Ford Motor Co., Detroit, American Ship Building Co., Lorain, Wikel Manufacturing and Lower Lake Dock Corp. in Sandusky.
He was a proud member of Progress Lodge 85, Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons, a Sublime Prince of the 32nd Degree, Bezaleel Consistory 15, Valley of Cleveland, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, a Noble in El Hasa Temple 28, Ancient Egyptian Arabic Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Desert of Cleveland and St. Stephen AME Church, Sandusky.
He loved to roller skate, fish, hunt,and work with scrap metal in his spare time. Uncle Eddie had a knack for repairing just about anything. He also loved spending time with friends, but cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are sons, Todd W. Jordan of Hawaii and Aswad (Shelisa) Johnson of Sandusky; grandchildren, Dante Kelly of Germany and Solomon and Zuri Ann Johnson of Sandusky; sisters, Clara Williams of Detroit, Ruby Jordan and Josephine Draper of Toledo; brother, Jashem Purley of Toledo; and a host of friends and relatives throughout the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents; ex-wife and friend, Barbara Ann (Hill) Johnson; infant children, Peter and Barbara Ann Johnson; brothers, Dan Johnson Jr., James Williams, S.T. Johnson Sr. and William McKind; infant sister, Gladys; and stepmothers, A.Z. McKind and Hannah Jeannette (Watson) Johnson.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. Thursday until funeral services at 1 p.m. in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. The Rev. Paul Bupe Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
