John Wing Bettridge, 73, of Sandusky died early Saturday afternoon, March 6, 2010, in Bellevue following a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 27, 1936, in Sandusky, son of the late John W. and Hazel (Scheufler) Bettridge. John was a 1955 graduate of Sandusky High School, where he played football and basketball and ran track. He attended Ohio University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as a lifeguard at Cedar Point and worked for Norfolk and Western Railroad for years. He enjoyed the parks in downtown Sandusky and loved cars and magazines on cars. He loved dancing and was a wonderful dancer.
John is survived by his wife, Nancy Jean (Knerr) Bettridge; two daughters; one son; four grandchildren; and one brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. A committal service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel at Meadow Green Memorial Park, 2602 E. Bogart Road, Huron. The Rev. Lenore Kure will officiate.
