Billy Keith Halblaub, 82, of Marblehead passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010, in his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 10, 1927, at home in Loudonville, Ohio, son of William and Pearl (Young) Halblaub. He married the former Barbara Flickinger June 27, 1948, at First Baptist Church in Loudonville.
He was a graduate of Loudonville High School, class of 1945. Bill was a World War II veteran, a staff sergeant in the 5th Constabulary Force in Europe. He was an owner of VHF Construction and a member of Carpenters Local Union 2239. He belonged to First United Church of Christ in Marblehead, where he served on church council and was the moderator, treasurer and a deacon over the years. He was a sergeant-at-arms at the Danbury Senior Center.
He was an avid fisherman and a Cleveland Browns and Indians fan.
Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son, Scott (Lorrie) Halblaub of Marblehead; one grandson, Shane (Sidsel) Halblaub of Marblehead; two great-granddaughters, Astrid and Eva Halblaub of Marblehead; two sisters, Charlotte Lavinder of Loudonville and Norma Crowell of Crestline, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Holly Halblaub.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday with visitation one hour prior to services at First United Church of Christ, 802 Prairie St., Marblehead. The Rev. Kay Mooney Cox will officiate. Burial will follow at Sackett Cemetery in Danbury Township.
