Dale J. Trautman Sr., 68, of Norwalk died Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.
He was born Feb. 18, 1942, in Norwalk and was a 1960 graduate of Norwalk High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-68 during Vietnam. He was aboard the USS Midway for four years, then the missile destroyer USS Hoel, and taught two years at the Damneck Navy Base in Virginia. He worked 35.7 years at New Departure in Sandusky, retiring in 2004.
He was a football referee for 25 years in the Firelands Conference, Northern Ohio League and Semi-Pro in Toledo. He was an avid Oakland Raiders fan and truly enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren's activities. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, VFW Post 2743 of Norwalk, and UAW 913 of Sandusky.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Veronica Carol (King) Trautman of Norwalk; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Randy Wheeler of Norwalk; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Carla Trautman of Norwalk; grandchildren, Cory, Kelly and Jacob Trautman, all of Norwalk, Courtney Wheeler of North Canton and Kelsey Wheeler of Norwalk; father, Clifford Thomas Trautman Sr. of Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky; mother-in-law, Margaret Tipping King of Norwalk; former sister-in-law, Gretchen Landoll; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Irene (Gfell) Trautman in May, 2010; and brother, Clifford Thomas Trautman Jr. in 1972.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery.
