John D. "Johnny" Schemmer, 57, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning, Aug. 29, 2013.
He was born April 7, 1956, in Sandusky, to John Richard and Elsie Elvira (Halonen) Schemmer. He attended St. Mary Elementary School and Sandusky High School. John worked at his father's company, Bay Electric Motor Repair Company Inc., for many years. He also worked, throughout the years, in the area of hospitality maintenance services. John spent the last four years caring for his elderly parents.
He enjoyed reading, music, science, electronics, local history, talk radio and politics. John was an avid sports fan and he loved animals, especially cats.
He is survived by his mother, Elsie E. (Halonen) Schemmer; four sisters, Kathleen Jensen, of Toledo, Virginia (Travis) Chapin, of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Cynthia (Tom) Glass and Theresa Woodburn, of Sandusky; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his father, John R. Schemmer, on Jan. 4, 2013; and a brother-in-law, Eric Jensen.
At the request of the family no visitation will take place. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Calvary Cemetery, 2020 Sanford St., Sandusky. The Rev. Joe Steinbauer will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the family.
