Doris L. Freitag, 88, of Bellevue, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, in the Willows in Bellevue.
She was born April 14, 1925, in Decatur, Ill., the only daughter of Lewis and Emily (Adams) Bland. She and her family relocated to Bellevue in 1970.
On June 9, 1957, she married Ernest Freitag and he preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 2010. Doris and her husband were members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Mrs. Freitag participated in women's circle activities, church council, and served as a delagate to the ALC Synod convention. Doris and Ernest were also very active in Masonry and Eastern Star, traveling extensively to attend meetings. Mrs. Freitag was a member of the Althea Chapter of the Eastern Star, where had served as secretary, past worthy matron, and grand delegate. Doris worked for Illinois Bell for 25 years.
One son, David (Marilyn) Freitag, and one daughter, Diane (Mike) Ackerman, both of Bellevue, survive her. She is grandmother to Chris (Ginger) Freitag, of Tipp City, Ohio, Dan (Emily) Freitag, of Bellevue, Brian and Scott Ackerman, of Bellevue. Five great-grandchildren also survive.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St., Bellevue, where Eastern Star Services will be at 7 p.m. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bellevue. The Rev. Juli Lejman-Guy will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellevue City Cemetery.
Memorials in Doris' memory may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church or Althea Chapter of the Eastern Star.
