John W. Lucas, 77, of Marblehead, died unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 12, 1936, in Marblehead, son of the late John and Anna (Walland) Lucas. On Sept. 21, 1963, he married Sharren Stiefel and she survives. John worked as a loader operator at Lafarge in Marblehead for more than 35 years until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead, where he volunteered as the cemetery gatekeeper for many years. He enjoyed sports, especially the Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Cavaliers and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed outdoor activities.
Survivors include his wife, Sharren; daughter, Candee (Brian) Hurt, of Marblehead; son, John (Lyndsey) Lucas, of Perrysburg, Ohio; sisters, Anna Marie Mack, of Solon, Ohio, and Geraldine Nason, of Marblehead; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise, Frances, Bernice and Mary, as well as brothers, Leon, Larry, and Robert “Bob”.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead. Additional visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay St., Marblehead. The Rev. Daniel J. Ring will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Marblehead.
