Wallace Eugene Beebe, 85, of Huron passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, in Sandusky.
He was born in Carey, Ohio, the second child of Wallace G. and Henrietta, and graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1979 as a Lt. Colonel rated as a Master Navigator. His career included an instrumental role in design and development of the air-to-air refueling process and equipment used now to support world-wide military activities. He also served a key role in support of the first landing on the moon. In the role of astronautical engineer he worked directly with NASA as technical director during the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs.
He was member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio.
He is survived by three children, Lance, and wife, Connie, of Dallas, Kathleen (Beebe) Balogh, and husband, Michael, of Asheville, N.C., and Derek of Huron; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and his brother, Dennis, and wife, Virginia, of Bucyrus, Ohio.
Wallace was preceded in death by his wife, Febe Maria (Edberg); his parents; and two brothers, Donald and Harold.
Honoring Wallace's request, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Monday in Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron.
