Joseph J. Legando, 78, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday morning, Aug. 21, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Joe was born May 20, 1935, in Sandusky, son of the late James and Gretchen (May) Legando. Joe graduated from Huron High School. He was employed with Huron OAR Docks, owned and operated Joe's Pizza Hut, and retired from his own contracting business, Joe's Home Improvement.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. In his spare time he enjoyed carpentry, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and especially watching his children's and grandchildren's sporting events throughout the years.
Joe is survived by his three daughters, Lisa (Steve) Carpenter, of Lewis Center, Ohio, Kari (Troy) Roth, of Castalia, and Betsy (Jason) Samstag, of Huron; two sons, Jim Legando, of Columbus, and Todd Legando, of Sandusky; 10 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by two sisters, Angela Horner and Evelyn Daughtry.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Joe Steinbauer will preside. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, at a later date.
