Edith Proctor, 82, Milan, passed away Saturday afternoon, Aug. 17, 2013, at Elyria Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 10, 1930, in Putney, W.V., to Bartley Samuel (1878 -1951) and Florence (Elswick) Spangler (1888-1951).
Edith was the owner/operator of Edith’s Beauty Salon in Milan for over 30 years. She was very active in the community. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Sally DeForest Chapter, holding numerous offices, the AMVETS, American Legion Post 527, where she was a lifetime auxiliary member, The Norwalk VFW Post 83, Norwalk Computer Club, and she volunteered with Stein Hospice. In her spare time she was always on the go, she enjoyed dancing, sewing, gardening, painting, genealogical research, and most of all spending time with her family.
She is survived by her, son Bartley Proctor Sr. of Milan; five grandchildren, Bartley (Beverly) Proctor Jr., Jennifer Proctor, Emily (William Perry) Proctor, Elizabeth Proctor, Roger (Ryan Reising) Proctor II; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by late husbands, Kenneth Proctor (1923-2005), and Donald E. Benson in 2011; son Roger Proctor I (1952-2011); infant great-grandson, Tyler Richard Dean in 1993; and 10 siblings, Victoria (1907-1911), Leonard (1912-1933), Gertrude (1915-1916), Hershell (1922-1929), Rufus (1909- 1974), Helen (1914-1977), Raymond (1917-1983), Opal (1920-1993), Myrtel (1924-1997), and Joe (1926-1972).
Friends may call, 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory 1 S. Main St., Milan, and 9:30-11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the funeral home. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Bill Enderle officiating. Burial will be in Milan Cemetery.
