James J. Berry, 74, of Norwalk died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, in Gaymont Nursing Center.
He was born Dec. 5, 1935, in Norwalk, son of the late Clarence J. and Elizabeth L. (Roth) Berry and was a lifelong area resident. Jim was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, was a 1954 graduate of St. Paul High School where he played several sports, and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Council 626, Norwalk. He was a member of Norwalk Elks and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Jim was the former co-owner of Berry's Restaurant in Norwalk and especially enjoyed the daily contact with the many families who came to the family restaurant. He enjoyed cooking and a good meal. Jim also enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events, was a former little league baseball coach for his children, and family vacations. He also enjoyed golf, yard work, and regular trips to Lake Tahoe, Nev., and was an avid Cleveland sports fan.
Jim is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Ken Bleile of Norwalk; sons and daughter-in-law, Mike and Mary Berry of Mansfield, Ohio, Todd Berry of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Mark Berry of Nashua, N.H.; six grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Shirley Berry of Norwalk.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Lois A. Berry in 2010; granddaughter, Kristen Bleile in 1985; and sister, Gweldolyn Plue.
Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Sunday in Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk; prayer services will be at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk; the Rev. Frank Kehres will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
