Warren C. Schafer, 89, of Norwalk died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, in Gaymont Nursing Center.

He was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Monroeville, son of the late Frank and Cecilia Schafer. He was a 1938 graduate of Monroeville High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1942-46 as a technical sergeant in World War II. He was a parts manager at Lang Implement in Norwalk for 25 years and also worked 15 years at Stieber Implement. He was a self-employed machinist and owned a sharpening service in Norwalk for many years. He designed and created many unique items including a child's electric car, traffic light, gum machine, motorized swing, chain driven escalator, electronic rain gauge and a timed cigarette dispenser.

He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of Norwalk VFW Post 2743. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan.

He is survived by his son, Richard (Carol) Schafer of Norwalk; daughters, Kathleen (Michael) Moroney of Grove City, Ohio, Nancy (Jim) Benadom of Oak Harbor and Dianne (Jim) Staley of Columbus; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters, Ann Jones and Theresa Karl; brothers, Norb Schafer, Alfred Schafer and Robert Schafer; son-in-law, Terry Frye; sister-in-law, Arlene "Enie" Frey; brother-in-law, Vernon Kluding; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Schafer, in 2010; daughter, Mary Frye; sisters, Ortrude "Orch" Smith and Mary Moore; and brothers, Edward Schafer, Peter Schafer and Joseph Schafer.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk; the Rev. Frank Kehres, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery with military honors.
