Robert D. "Bob" Garner, 83, of Sandusky, passed away early Monday morning, July 29, 2013, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
Born July 14, 1930, in Plymouth, Ohio, he was the son of Lester Leland and Ada Bernice (Connolly) Garner. He was a 1948 graduate of Sandusky High School.
Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Golden Cluster. He worked at the Ford Motor Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1995.
Bob was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. In the earlier days, he enjoyed camping and square dancing with his wife, Ellen. He truly loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and especially his pets. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Bob is survived by two daughters, Sheryl L. Garner and Victoria L. Garner both of Sandusky; five grandchildren, James (Tiffany) Crapsey, Melissa (Michael) Griffiths, Lisa (Ron) Garner, Jennifer and Ashley McKillips; six great-grandchildren, Jessica, Kylie, Korrin, Kyrin, Sydney, Ethan, and one on the way; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen J. "Nita" (Graves) Gardner, on July 12, 2005; a son, Timothy R. Garner (2001); and four brothers, Carroll, Ronald, Nelson and David Garner.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, at the funeral home. Rev. Timothy Nilsen officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 83.
