Mildred H. Palmer, 94, of Monroeville, died Sunday evening, July 28, 2013, in Gaymont Nursing Home, Norwalk, following a brief illness.
She was born April 13, 1919, in Monroeville, and was a 1937 graduate of Monroeville High School.
Mildred was employed as a secretary for the Monroeville Local Schools for 20 years. She enjoyed playing euchre, following her children and grandchildren in their sporting events, and the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavs.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Monroeville, and the Women’s Circle of the Church. Mildred was also a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Monroeville.
Mildred is survived by her children, Richard (Marilyn) Palmer of Monroeville, Donald (Susan) Palmer of Austintown, Ohio, and Janet (John “Michael” ) Helmstetter of Monroeville; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer “Doggie” Palmer in 1995; parents, Gustav and Frieda (Hehl) Schug; one brother, Melvin Schug; and two sisters, Alice Preston, and Arlene Jakes.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe St., Monroeville. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 121 Broad St., Monroeville. The Rev. Dr. Amy C. Little will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Monroeville.
