Jacob H. “Jake” Mackey, 73, of Catawba Island, died suddenly Monday, July 22, 2013, in Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton.
He was born May 5, 1940, in Port Clinton, son of the late Raymond and Ida Belle (Babcock) Mackey. Jake was a 1958 Port Clinton High School graduate where he was a three sport letter winner. He earned a scholarship to play football at Bowling Green State University and then was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving his country in Panama during the Vietnam War.
He married Carolyn A. Breon Oct. 19, 1968, and she survives.
Jake worked at Ford Motor Company in Sandusky, for more than 35 years, until his retirement in 1996.
He was a member of the Port Clinton Elks Lodge 1718; AMVETS in Sandusky; the Catawba Island Club, and Ford UAW 1216 in Sandusky. His hobbies included going to casinos, traveling, and being an avid golfer. He enjoyed spending time with his loving feline and friend, Sara.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; son, Ronald (Amy) Ferres, Bellevue; daughter, Vicki (Everett) Tennant, of Marblehead; grandchildren, Emily Tennant and Everett Tennant Jr., and Bryan, Brady and Brock Ferres; sister, Anna Marie Colston, of Port Clinton; sister-in-law, Jeanne (Thomas) Gottron, of Fremont; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Kenny Colston.
As a gift to others, Jake was an organ donor, and per his wishes, cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton St., Port Clinton, where members of the Port Clinton Elks will conduct services at 6:30 p.m. Additional visitation at the funeral home will be from 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, until a Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Port Clinton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association; Humane Society of Ottawa County or to your favorite charity.
