Larry D Becker, 79, of Norwalk, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky.
He was born May 24, 1934, in Savannah, Ill., son of the late David H. and Evelyn (Burke) Becker. He was a 1954 graduate of Western Reserve High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He owned L.D. Becker Auto Electric in Norwalk. He was an inventor of alternator conversions for Ford’s Model A and Model T cars. He was the first and only to make a 12 volt starter conversion for the Model T. He spent every spare minute working in his shop designing alternators for antique cars. If he could have, Larry would have slept in his shop. He was a member of the Norwalk Eagles Aerie 711.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Becker, of Norwalk; daughter, Debra Steele, of Norwalk; sons, Larry Becker Jr., of Norwalk, Daryl Becker, of Raleigh, N.C., and Damien Becker, of Norwalk; sister, Bette (Scott) Sommers, of Oklahoma; brother, Rhene Becker, of Clarksfield, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk, where a funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 19. Pastor Joel Capizzi will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
