Mario Leonard, 92, of Bellevue, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013, in his home.
He was born Oct. 8, 1920, in Udine, Italy, the son of Luigi and Agnes (Forte) Leonarduzzi.
Mario came to the United States in 1937. He served the U.S. Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theater during World War II, where he earned a Bronze Star. He had a passion for his work, as he was an excellent cabinet maker. Mario was a life member of Bellevue VFW, Mad River Railroad & NKP, and a member of the former Club Amer-Ital.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Frances (Artino), whom he married July 22, 1943, in Orlando, Fla.; six children, Paul Leonard, Victor Leonard, and Richard (Ruth) Leonard, all of Bellevue, Ann Leonard of Hartville, Ohio, Mario (Robbin) Leonard of Bellevue, and Agnes (John) Robinson of Leesburg, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Maria Gardin of Italy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Anthony, Victorio, Luigi, and Peter; and two sisters, Norina and Anna.
Friends will be received 2-8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, where the Rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 19, at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center St., Bellevue. Burial will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.
