Elnora H. Sargeant, 87, of Monroeville, passed away early Wednesday evening, July 10, 2013, in Providence Care Center, following a brief illness.
She was born June 15, 1926, in Sandusky, daughter of the late Theodore and Vera (LaFavre) Hill. Elnora was a 1944 Sandusky High School graduate. She was a 4-H advisor for more than 70 years and was inducted into the Ohio 4-H Hall of Fame.
She was a member of the Sandusky Choral Society, Erie County Farm Bureau, Extension Homemakers, Lutheran Memorial Auxiliary, and St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was the music and choir director. Elnora enjoyed singing, gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family.
Elnora is survived by her three daughters, Cynthia (Bruce) Thayer, of Berlin Heights, Kathleen (James) Norris, of Centerburg, Ohio, and Carolyn (Kenneth) Wilson, of Byesville, Ohio; one son, Lowell (Susan) Sargeant, of Garland, Texas; eight grandchildren, Sharon (Michael) Baxter, Frank (Bettyann) Thayer, Matthew (Dawn) Thayer, Keith Norris, Marie (Travis) Kennedy, Leslie and Kristen Wilson , and Shelly (Kyle) Carpenter; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Rosemary Pugh, of Sandusky; several nieces, nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clair E. Sargeant in 1997; her parents; and twin grandsons in infancy.
Friends may call 2-5 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, and from 9 a.m. Monday, July 15, until funeral services at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 9416 Ohio 99 N., Monroeville. Pastor James Michaels will officiate. Burial will follow in Sandhill Cemetery, Castalia.
