Joanne Marie (Pfefferle) Chromey was born Aug. 3, 1934, in Monroe, Mich. She passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Joanne grew up in Sandusky and spent most of her adult life in Huron. She was the first member of her family to attend college, and later earned a master’s degree. She retired from EHOVE vocational high school in 1990, after many decades teaching in Huron, Sandusky, and lastly, at EHOVE, teaching mainly English and touching many young lives.
Joanne was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for retired teachers, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Huron, and volunteered at St. Peter School in Huron and at Stein Hospice in Sandusky.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Gerald R. Chromey; a daughter, Kristina Strom; sons, David (Laura) Strom and Erik Strom; stepdaughters, Caroline Chromey, Christine Anderson and Cynthia Byrd; much loved grandchildren, Denah Johnston, Andrew Strom, Rhea Skoulakis, Josh (Milana) Parsons, Michelle (Stephen) Brown; and several great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Pfefferle; brothers, John (Carol) Pfefferle and Bernard (Cher) Pfefferle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Bernetta (Koelsch) Pfefferle; her sister, Elizabeth Ann Pfefferle; and her grandson, Jeremy Parsons.
Joanne will be remembered by many lifelong friends in Ohio, Michigan, Florida, England and elsewhere.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.Sunday, July 7, at Foster Funeral Home and Crematory, 410 Main St., Huron. A mass of remembrance will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 8, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron. The Rev. Gerald Ceranowski will officiate.
