Bret A. Cantley, 43, residing in Wickliffe, Ohio, and formerly of Sandusky, passed away Saturday evening, June 29, 2013, in Hospice of the Western Reserve in Westlake, Ohio.
Bret was born July 24, 1969, in Lakewood, Ohio, to Lester Cantley and Jane (Roberts) Ryan.
Bret, a 1988 graduate of Sandusky High School, was employed as a mechanic with the family business, J & J Automotive in Sandusky.
Bret was a member of Wayside Temple, of Castalia, First Baptist Church, of Willowick, and Burnt River Browns Backers, of Mentor, Ohio.
Bret enjoyed bowling — rolling a 300 game, car racing, and fishing. Bret was always a jokester who enjoyed life and spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved all of his children dearly.
Bret is survived by his wife, Joan (Henderson) Cantley, whom he married April 27, 2013; daughters, Alexis, Madison, Paige and Riley Cantley; sons, Ryan Vanness and Cody Cantley; parents, Lester Cantley, of Oak Dale, La., and Jane (Roberts) Ryan, of Sandusky; step-children, Adam and Tabytha Bryant and Joshua and Rachel Erich; grandchildren, Payson and Jozy; brothers, Scott (Stephi) Cantley, of Milan, Doug (Tish) Cantley, of Sandusky, and Joe (Penny) Ryan, of Castalia; nieces, Kennedy, Sarah and Brianna; nephews, Jordan, Evan and Collin; extended family, Adri Sinwald, Chris Randles, Hannah Randles and Haleigh Marie Jade Randles.
Bret was preceded in death by his stepfather, Joe “Tiny” Ryan, and his niece, Melissa.
Friends may call from noon Monday, July 8, until a service at 1 p.m. at Wayside Temple, 3809 Maple Ave., Castalia. Pastor Rusty Yost will officiate. Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory in Sandusky is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to his mother Jane Ryan.
