Joseph “Joe” R. Grunden Sr., 61, of Sandusky, died late Friday evening, June 28, 2013, in Admiral’s Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Dec. 2, 1951, in Sandusky, son of Rosemary Pugh and the late Robert Grunden. Joe was a 1970 graduate of Perkins High School.
He was a seven year veteran of the U.S. Army.
Following his time in the military, Joe graduated from Highway Trucking School. He worked for J-C Ready Mix, Monroe Service, Sandusky Lumber Company, and MC and Associates. He was also the owner of Big Joe’s Pic-a-Nic Table Construction.
Joe enjoyed playing pool, being a member of two pool leagues, playing golf, and performing karaoke at local venues.
He is survived by his sons, Joseph Grunden Jr. and Jonathan Grunden, of Sandusky; six grandchildren; mother, Rosemary Pugh, of Sandusky; brothers, Timothy Grunden, of Columbus, and Ted (Becky) Grunden, of Bellevue; sisters, Martha (Dennis) Sitterly, of Norwalk, and Miriam (Todd) Sommer, of Huron; and a special friend, Sheila Adams.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carmen; his father; grandparents; and a niece, Kailee.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 1, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 2. The Rev. Darrell Gant will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
