Jeffrey G. Merriam, 67, of Sandusky passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, in Stein Hospice Care Center following a two-year battle with cancer.
Jeff was born Feb. 4, 1943, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., son of the late Georgia C. (Grow) and Jack G. Merriam. He received his bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey and his master’s degree from The Ohio State University.
He was an U.S. Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War. Jeff was a teacher for Zanesville Junior High, Zanesville, Ohio, and Lakewood Local High School in Hebron, Ohio. He then moved to Lima, Ohio, where he was an engineer at the Lima Army Tank Plant. He moved to Sandusky and retired from Delphi in 2000.
Jeff was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Sandusky. He enjoyed being around the water and sailing. In his prime, he owned four sailboats and enjoyed watching the ebb and flow of Lake Erie and Sandusky Bay.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. (House) Merriam; daughters, Dr. Julie A. (Peter L. Woodward) Merriam of Vancouver, Wash., and Angie S. Merriam of Columbus; sister, J. Lee Merriam of Virginia; and brother, Gregory J. (Trudy) Merriam of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles F. Merriam.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today at Trinity United Methodist Church, 214 E. Jefferson St., Sandusky. Arrangements were entrusted to Groff Funeral Home, Sandusky.
