Arthur Joseph Gahagan, 88, died June 7, 2013, in Tiffany Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation, Port St. Lucie, Fla.
He was born May 31,1925, in Norwalk. He lived in Jensen Beach, Fla., for the past 22 years, coming from Sandusky.
He graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School, Norwalk, in 1943.
He served his country during WWII as a gunnery instructor and airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corps. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.
He retired from New Departure Hyatt, Sandusky, in 1985 after 37 years of service.
Art was a member of Elks Lodge 285, Sandusky, and served as exalted ruler 1976-77, American Legion Post 318 and Knights of Columbus, Port St. Lucie. He enjoyed golf, bowling and travel. He was The Ohio State University's biggest fan.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Gahagan, of Jensen Beach; son, Timothy (Wendy) of California; daughters Jill Neese, of Sandusky, Carol Gahagan, of California, and Liz (Tom) Pean, of Sandusky; sister, Helen Hoefacker, of Monroeville; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn; parents, Arthur and Euretta; and brother, Harold.
Art will always be remembered for his love of sports, his quick wit and his love of life.
