Alan R. Mickens, 67, of Sandusky, passed away late Friday morning, June 21, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 12, 1946, in Sandusky, to Ennes Duane and Helen Viola (Masten) Mickens.
Alan was a 1964 Sandusky High School graduate and attended the Ohio State University before being drafted in the U.S. Army and serving four years during the Vietnam War. He worked for the Norfolk and Western Railroad before retiring from Delphi Energy and Chassis as a tool and die maker after 25 years of service.
He was a member of the Sandusky YMCA and enjoyed golfing, fishing, swimming, boating, boxing and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Dana Mickens of Perrysburg, Ohio; one sister, Nancy (John) Melching of Sandusky; one brother, Gary Mickens of Sandusky; and his nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Keith Mickens.
Friends may call noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave. Sandusky. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, at later date.
