Gladine A. Montgomery Schwochow, 90, of Vickery, and formerly of Clyde, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, in The Willows.
Mrs. Schwochow was born in Castalia, to the now deceased Albert and Alma (Leber) Maschka. She graduated from York High School in 1940.
Gladine was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Vickery, where she had been a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Women of the Church and involved in its Mission Quilting Group. She enjoyed gardening, both vegetables and flowers. For several years, she had worked at Castalia Farms and the Margaretta Schools, however, she most enjoyed being a mother.
Survivors include five children , Robert (Linda) Montgomery, of Dayton, Ohio, Jack (Martha) Montgomery, of Clyde, Janet (Stephen) Hall, of Sandusky, Susan (Todd) Spence, of McConnelsville, Ohio, and Timothy (Debra) Montgomery, of Lebanon, Ohio. Four stepchildren, Judith (Don) McEowen, of Sandusky, John ( Linda) Schwochow, of Vickery, Jerry (Linda) Schwochow, of Willard, and Joyce (Bill) Dahnke, of Norwalk; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; 20 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild also survive. Her sister, Patricia Featheringill survives in Attica.
On Feb. 25, 1942, Gladine married Robert C. Montgomery, and he preceded her in death July 28, 1969. She married O. James Schwochow on Dec. 30, 1977, and he preceded her in death May 4, 2012. One brother, Robert Maschka, and one sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Spitler, are also deceased.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday, June 23, at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 24, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Vickery. The Rev. David Klappenbach will officiate. Visitation one hour prior to the funeral.Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
