Robert J. "Bob" Daniel

Robert J. "Bob" Daniel, 82, of Sandusky, died late Saturday evening, June 15, 2013, in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Sandusky, the son of Cyril James and Eleanore Agnes (Klingbiel) Daniel. Bob was a 1948 graduate of St. Mary Central Catholic High School, and while in high school attended the Josephenum Seminary. He served in the Ohio National Guard during the Korean War.

Bob worked at Grill Meats/Chef’s Panty for 30 years and after retirement in 1983 he was the business manager for St. Mary’s Church for ten years. Bob was active in area credit unions, served on the Goodwill Industries Board, the Catholic Cemeteries Board and most recently served on the Board of Trustees and Finance Committee for Our Lady of the Pines Retreat Center in Fremont. Bob served on the Toledo Diocese Task Force for Employee Health Insurance for over 20 years, and for three years on the Bishop’s Council on Education.

A lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church, Bob was bookkeeper for nine years for the St. Mary’s Elementary School, worked on many major fund raising campaigns for both St. Mary’s Church and Schools from 1950 to 2000. He served on the Parish Personnel and Finance committees, on the SMCCHS Board and Finance Committee and St. Mary’s Parish Bingo as finance manager. He was a recipient of the SMCCHS Golden Bell award in 1993.

Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane E. (Gerold) Daniel, with whom he would have celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 22; six children, Susan Daniel of Sandusky, Patricia Dawson of Columbus, Michael (Suzanne) Daniel of Sandusky, Peter (Mary) Daniel of Sandusky, Mark (Lisa) Daniel of McKinney, Texas, and Andrew Daniel of Perdido, Ala.; six grandchildren, Kelly and Sarah Dawson, Lauren, Matt, Darcy and Kayla Daniel; sister, Mary (Mike) Gebelle of Huron; brothers, John (Ann) Daniel of Sandusky, Edward (Patricia) Daniel of Rockville Md.; sister-in-law, Phyllis Daniel; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Daniel.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where a prayer service will be held at 6:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, Fr. Joe Steinbauer officiating. At his request, cremation will take place following the service. Private family interment services will be held later in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
