Carol A. Germond, 69, of Norwalk, died Sunday, May 16, 2010.

She was born July 5, 1940, in Norwalk, daughter of the late Carl H. and Mildred M. (Berner) Heyman and lived in the Norwalk area most of her life and had lived in Piqua, Ohio, from 1964-75. Carol was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Christian Day Nursery School Board, served on church council and was head of the Altar Guild. She was a 1958 graduate of Norwalk High School. She received her Bachelor's degree from Capital University and received her Master's degree in Primary Education in 1989 from Ashland College. Carol's first job was in Whitehall Public Schools and she then taught in Piqua Public Schools. Most of her teaching career was in Norwalk Public Schools at Benedict, Pleasant, and Maplehurst. She retired and received the Teacher of the Year Award in 2000.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, the Town and Country Garden Club, the Heyman Historical Society, was a volunteer for Christie Lane Schools, and was a member of the Sandusky Choral Society. Carol was a member of a pioneer Huron County family and enjoyed music traveling and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters and son in law, Kathryn L. and Kenneth Smith of Norwalk and Elizabeth A. Osborn of Norwalk; and her grandchildren, Chris Smith, Cortney Smith, Cara Smith, Austin Smith, Aimee Smith and Alexandria Osborn. Carol is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles E. and Justine Heyman of Beaufort, S.C.; and by her nieces, Kristen and Lee Rubenstein of Newman, Ga., and Cortney and Mike McNerney of San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Friends may call 2-8 p.m. today at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Ave., Norwalk. The Rev. Fred Wiechers will officiate.
