Daniel Grady Killian Sr., 76, Sandusky, died Friday evening, Feb. 26, 2010, in Providence Care Center after a lengthy illness.

He was born Dec. 22, 1933, in Bellevue. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, A Company 1st Battalion, Second Marine, participating in the last raid of Jan. 3, 1953. Daniel was formerly employed by Farrell-Cheek Steel for 20 years, and retired from the Erie County Highway Dept. after six years.

He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Sandusky, Good Sam RV Owners Club Chapter 23, lifetime member of American Legion Post 83, lifetime member of VFW Post 2529, member of the AMVETS and a member of PERS.

Daniel is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joan (Garvin) Killian of Sandusky whom he married July 11, 1964; daughter, Julie (Larry Dahm) Killian of Sandusky; sons, Arthur Killian Sr., Robert (Sylvia) Griggs, Randy Griggs, Jeffrey Griggs and Thomas (Cathy) Griggs Jr., all of Sandusky, and Steven (Marlene) Griggs of Milan; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Keller, Norma Jean Eckert and Barbara (Willard) Rich, all of Sandusky, Juanita (Melvin) Griffaw of Vermilion and Leona (Larry) Eckert of Huron; brother, Norman (Darlene) Bilger of Sandusky; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Grady Killian Jr.; parents, Grady D. Killian and Leona (Ruggles) Killian Bilger; stepfather, Norman Bilger; sister, Gladys Mitchell; and brothers-in-law, Robert Keller and Thomas Eckert.

A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, the Rev. Marty Nassr will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, with American Legion Post 83, Sandusky, conducting military honors.
