Shirley Mae (Blumenthal) Sapper, 79, of Pittsburgh and formerly Sandusky, passed away peacefully Feb. 25, 2010.

Shirley was born July 4, 1930. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed time with her family and traveling with her devoted husband, David, to visit relatives and to see the world. Her passion was to create a wonderful home for her family. She had a keen eye for beauty and enjoyed gardening and flower arranging, watercolor painting and attending concerts with David. When she and David moved to Columbus from Sandusky in August 2009, they left many dear friends. They formerly lived in Buffalo, N.Y., West Caldwell, N.J., and Southfield, Mich.

Shirley was a graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh in 1948 and a 1952 graduate of Margaret Morrison Carnegie College in fashion design. She was a member of National Council of Jewish Women, Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority, League of Women Voters and the Cultural Arts League in Sandusky. She was an involved member of Congregation Oheb Shalom for 37 years.

She is survived by loving husband of 57 years, Dr. David I. Sapper; children, Ellen Sapper (Pam Sjo) of Ann Arbor, Mich., David B. (Julie) Sapper of Columbus, Pearl G. (Richard) Schwartz of Denver and Daniel A. Sapper (Jim Villone) of Rochester, N.Y.;  grandchildren, Jori, Rachel and Gabe Sapper, and Joel and Lisa Schwartz; and dear sister, Lillian B. Friedman. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Pearl and Israel Blumenthal; and sister, Bernice Marcovsky.
