Joan M. Flesher, 84, of Sandusky, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, Feb. 25, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.
She was born June 21, 1925, in Sandusky and was a graduate of Sandusky High School and The Ohio State University. Joan was a homemaker and volunteer throughout her adult life. She volunteered with American Red Cross, the former Memorial Hospital, and Cancer Services. Joan was a member and lay reader at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Sandusky, and the Women’s College Club. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed working the New York Times crossword puzzles everyday.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula Geer of Virginia and Sandusky; grandson, Joel (Elizabeth) Geer of Greenville, S.C.; two great-grandsons, Joseph Carter Geer and John Keller Geer, both of Greenville; and a cousin, Marilyn Shearer of Huron.
She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, J. Stanford Flesher; and parents, Paul H. and Winifred (Diehl) Mielke.
Friends may call 3-6 p.m. Sunday in Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Oakland Cemetery Chapel, 2917 Milan Road, Sandusky; the Rev. Elmer C. Novak will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Oakland Cemetery.
