Clarence F. "Bud" Popke, 93, residing in Sandusky, passed away late Monday evening, June 3, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Clarence was born March 11, 1920, in Sandusky, son of the late Charles and Gertrude (Riesterer) Popke.
Clarence was a U.S Army veteran serving during WW II in the 351st infantry division. He was a carpenter and worked for the Local 940 for several contractors.
He was a member of the Sand Hill United Methodist Church and a life member of VFW Post 2529, Sandusky. In his spare time, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Alberta (Jarrett), whom he married Aug. 2, 1941; daughter, Julie Betschman, of Sandusky; son, Robert Popke, of Sandusky; daughter-in-law, Sue Popke, of Sandusky; sister, Barbara Roccosalva, of California; two brothers, Charles Popke and Donald (Carol) Popke, of Sandusky; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Clarence was preceded in death by his son, William A. Popke; his parents; three sisters, Virginia Popke, Geraldine Shupp and Mary Hotchkiss; son-in-law, Allen James Walter; and great-grandson, Allen Walter.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 7, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8. Pastor Steve Rice of Sand Hill United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery Sandusky.
