Thomas Edward McDonald, 52, of Huron, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 30, 2013.
He was born July 23, 1960, in Ottawa, Ill. Tom received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University, where he earned the distinction of Phi Beta Kappa.
Tom was highly regarded in the field of industrial automation. He was employed with Balluff Inc., where he received many performance awards as regional sales director. Tom truly enjoyed his team and his esteemed colleagues in the U.S. and Germany.
Tom was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Huron. He was also an active member at Plum Brook Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf with friends. He was an avid reader, a World War II aficionado, and a past president of the Chaska Beach Association. Tom loved spending time with his two beloved Great Pyrenees dogs, Mason and Georgia. A food and wine enthusiast, Tom also loved a beautiful day at the beach with Mary surrounded by adoring friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Mary Elizabeth (Rolnik); his parents, Thomas Lee and Patricia (Cunningham) McDonald; sisters, Lynn (Harold Berg) McDonald, M.D., Jean McDonald and Susan (Todd) Misselt; nieces, Abra and Chandler Misselt; aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Grace Cunningham, and Thomas and Mildred McDonald.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main St., Huron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron. The Rev. Jeffery Sikorski will officiate.
