Mildred Ann Bauer, a lifetime resident of Norwalk, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at age 97.
She was born in Norwalk, at the family farm on Dec. 10, 1915, to Ralph and Norma Godfred. The Godfred family were members of First United Methodist Church. Mildred graduated from North Fairfield High School and then married Walter Bauer, also of Norwalk, on Sept. 1, 1934. Walter and Mildred were members of St. Peter Lutheran Evangelical Church.
Mildred enjoyed square dancing and playing cards, with her husband, Walter, and their many friends and family. She worked at Pressings, Fisher Norwalk and Faulhaber Bicycle Seat Company as a seamstress, where she made many lifetime friends.
She was a great cook, preparing many large family meals and her holiday fudge. The Bauer’s loved to have big family gatherings, reunions, holiday celebrations and going out to eat. Each summer they spent time at the county fair.
Mildred spent her time at home working in the vegetable garden, planting and caring for many flowers and keeping a very clean home. She always enjoyed going shopping and visiting with friends and family. She was an avid Norwalk Truckers Basketball fan, attending games through the 2012-13 season.
Mildred loved her family very much; she had endless wonderful times with her son and daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She also had a special spot in her heart for the all of the family dogs that were part of her life. Anyone who visited with Mildred will know that she had an outstanding memory; she could always recall countless memories, including specific details – right down to the weather and day. Mildred loved music; she especially loved old church hymns and polkas and attended many Oktoberfests. She lived a very full life and had many wonderful memories.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Mary Bauer; grandchildren, Wendy and Chad Reeves, Scott and Jill Bauer, and Robyn and Eric Rogers; and great-grandchildren, Samantha and Sydney Reeves, Remington, Kenzie and Crosby Bauer.
