Edward J. Ryan

Edward J. Ryan, 65, of Bellevue, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, in The Willows at Bellevue. 

He was born April 19, 1948, in Norwalk, to Edward P. and Mary K. (Foran) Ryan.

 

Mr. Ryan served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-72, earning an honorable discharge as a sergeant.  During that time, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and Washington, D.C.  
Ed was employed at Norfolk Southern Railroad as a locomotive engineer for 42 years until his retirement in 2008.  
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Eagles Aerie 490, and American Legion Post 83, Sandusky.  Ed sang in the Immaculate Conception Church choir and as a soloist at the Sorrowful Mother Shrine for many years.  He enjoyed reading, traveling, woodworking, and maintaining his yard.  Most of all, Ed enjoyed being with and caring for his family.

 

Ed is survived by his wife, Jean (Higgins), whom he married April 6, 1974, at St. Mary’s Church, Sandusky; one daughter, Dr. Kristin Ryan of Columbus; one son, Timothy Ryan, of Athens, Ohio; his mother, Mary K. Ryan; a brother, Daniel P. (Melita “Day”) Ryan of Pasadena, Calif.; sisters: Kathryn Mary (John) Wetli, of Toledo, Margaret C. (Jim) Reilly, of Rocklin, Calif., Mary Ellen “Molly” (Stephen “Chuck”) Nadeau, of West Barnstable, Mass., and Patricia M. (Kenneth) Laham, of Brookline, Mass.; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as his grandpuppy, Garda and grandcat, Spike.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his infant sisters, Mary Ann Ryan and Ann Elizabeth Ryan.

Friends will be received 2-8 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center St., Bellevue. Burial will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.
