Donald J. Schropp, 95, of Sandusky, and a resident of the Commons of Providence for the past 10 years, died Monday morning, May 27, 2013, in Stein Hospice Care Center following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 20, 1917, in Sandusky and was a 1937 graduate of St. Mary Central Catholic High School.
Don was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, serving in the European Theater of Operation, with the 107th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years as a mail carrier. Prior to that, he worked at H. & S. Bakery and Universal Clay Products.
Donald was a life long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sandusky, and he loved doing yard work and gardening.
He is survived by four nieces, Carol (Ted) Homberger, of Sandusky, Sharon Bittner, of Berlin Heights, and Linda (Craig) Rudolph and Debra Schropp, of Sandusky; numerous great nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Helen (Homberger) Schropp, and two brothers, Richard Schropp and William Schropp.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. Monday, June 3, until a Christian Mass of Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Joseph Steinbauer will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
