H. Howard Printy, 91, of Sandusky died early Monday, March 1, 2010, at his residence, following a lengthy illness.

He was born Jan. 28, 1919. son of the late Harry H. and Cecelia (Garvin) Printy in Vickery. Howard graduated from Townsend High School and was the last surviving member of the class of 1936. Howard worked as a tool and die maker at New Departure-Hyatt for 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a staff sergeant, serving in France with the 1st Division.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sandusky, where he served as an usher, was a member of the Church Pastoral Council and Festival Committees. He also belonged to Knights of Columbus-4th Degree and served as past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus-546. He participated in the K of C bowling and golf leagues and enjoyed boating, fishing and spending time with his family and his pet, Sophie. He was also a member of AMVETS Post 19, VFW Post 2529 and American Legion Post 83.

He is survived by his wife, Patti Holzmiller-Printy, whom he married Feb. 27, 2001; daughters, Susan (Thomas) Coughlan and Sally (Rob) Routh of Sandusky and Sharon (Jim) Rosino of Sylvania, Ohio; sons, Dennis (Jean) Printy of Marblehead, Kevin (Marianne) Printy of Bellevue and Patrick (Diane) Printy of Sandusky; stepson, Brian (Wanda) Holzmiller of Sandusky; step-daughters, Amy (George) Bowers of Huron and Julie (Mike) Ryan of Sandusky; 14 grandchildren and eight stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Don (Mickie) Clemens of Huron; his sister-in-law, Marian Beatty of Huron; and many loved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife, Dorothy, in 2000, Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Rose Karbler and Kathryn Sirene; and his brother, Jim Printy.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where the 4th Degree of Knights of Columbus will provide an honor guard and conduct a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday and prayers will be recited at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. David Nuss, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
