Michael C. "Mike" Knerr, 63, of Sandusky, passed away early Thursday afternoon, May 9, 2013, surrounded by his family, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.

He was born Sept. 27, 1949, in Sandusky, son of the late Frank and Dorothy (Krieger) Knerr. Mike was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served during the Vietnam War. He worked at Sandusky Plastics for many years and later retired in 2009 from Lear Corp. (International Automotive Components), in Huron. 

He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, playing cards and especially enjoyed working with his friends on their race cars.

Mike was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, life member of the VFW Post 2529, life member of the AMVETS Post 17 and a member of American Legion Post 83. He also had volunteered at  Ohio Veterans Home helping out at the different functions and programs hosted at the home for veterans.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary L. (Terenzi) Knerr, whom he married Aug. 25, 1979; his daughters, Amber (fiance, Jared Rhode) Knerr, Tiffany Knerr, and twin daughters, Stephanie and April; and grandchildren; brother, Jim Knerr, of Sandusky; sister, Margaret "Maggie" Carrisalez, of Port Clinton; and nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Eddie Carrisalez.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 13, at David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where a prayer service will be at 6:45 p.m. Prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Jason Kahle will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky. Military honors will be conducted by Marines Forever, Final Farewell Burial Detail.
