Janet E. (Rice) Porter, 70, of Sandusky passed away at 11:02 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
She was born March 17, 1939, in Sandusky, daughter of Mrs. Helen Wood Rice and the late Robert Rice. On Sept. 3, 1960, Janet Rice married Peter "Pete" Porter. Janet graduated from Sandusky High School, class of 1957.
She was employed by Third National Bank, and later went to work for Buckeye Cable, retiring in 2002 after 18 years of service. Janet had many talents including writing and cooking. She made the best signature chicken, sloppy joes, doughnuts and chocolate chip cookies, made from scratch. She had a beautiful way about her and a very beautiful personality.
Janet was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She loved going out in field service and preaching the good news of God's kingdom.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Janet will be truly missed by her husband of 49 years, Peter Porter; their children, James L. Porter and Gaye Elaine (Louis) Hines, both of Sandusky; grandchildren, James, Lukas and Breona Hines, all of Sandusky; her mother, Helen Wood Rice of Huron; brother, Richard V. "Dickie" Rice of Rochester, N.Y.; four sisters, Carole E. (Rice) Sherman, Ruth E. (Rice) Knight, Dolores O. Rice and Donna J. (Rice) (Bob) McClellan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lula (Elroy) Rollison, Albert (Louise) Porter and Betty Lewis, all of Sandusky, Nellie Taylor and Sam (Rosie) Porter, both of Wisconsin; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Rice, Aug. 2, 1975; maternal and paternal grandparents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, S.P. and Beatrice Porter; aunt, Lillie Brown; and uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Colum-bus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 608 King St., Sandusky, with Gregory Seavers officiating. Cremation will follow.
