Joseph DeFazio, 86, of Huron, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in Erie County Care, Huron, under the loving care of Stein Hospice Services.
He was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Chicago, and moved to Huron in 1950. He graduated from Crane High School in Chicago in 1944 and attended the University of Illinois and Knox College. He retired in 1988 from NASA Plum Brook and Brookpark facilities after 30 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron, and the Knights of Columbus. He belonged to the Great Circle Flying Club and enjoyed flying planes with his commercial pilot’s license. Joe enjoyed painting and high school football.
Survivors include two daughters, Ellen (George) Antonakos, of Baltimore, and Amy (Ed) Hula, of Huron; two sons, Joe (Cindy) DeFazio and Jim (Elvie) DeFazio, of Huron; nine grandchildren, George Antonakos, Tony, Paul (Tracy) Joe (Brittany) Jim and David DeFazio, Andrea (Tony) Conrad and Mandy (Jeff) Vasold, Janet (Matt) Reed, and Judy Tata; nine great-grandchildren, Luke, Nolan, Ella, Hannah, Ellie, Anna, Rachel, Sarah and Baylee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary (Pisano) DeFazio, April 13, 2013; his parents, Mario and Domenica (Fantozzi) DeFazio; and a sister, Antoinette Chicotel.There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 2, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron. The Rev. Jeffery Sikorski will officiate. Entombment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
