David Jude "DJ" Whinnery II, 23, of Bellevue, passed away unexpectedly late Monday afternoon, April 22, 2013, in Sandusky.
He was born Feb. 17, 1990, in Sandusky, to David J. and Annette M. (Gundrum) Whinnery. DJ was a 2008 graduate of Bellevue High School and had attended Wright State University.
He loved playing basketball, baseball, music and hanging out with his many friends. DJ enjoyed spending time with his family and truly loved his niece and nephew.
He is survived by his parents; sister, Shannon (Adam) Smith, of Bellevue; his niece and nephew, Reese and Ethan Smith; maternal grandfather, Richard "Dick" Gundrum, of Sandusky; maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Josephine and Dean Redinger, of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
DJ was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Sally (Coakley) Whinnery; maternal step-grandmother, Jeannette Gundrum; uncle, Pat Whinnery; and cousin, Lukas Gundrum.
At the request of the family, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends 3-7 p.m. Friday, April 26, at David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, and from 9 a.m. Saturday, April 27, in the Gathering Space of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Jason Kahle will officiate. Interment will be Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870; Cancer Services of Erie County, 505 E.
