Steven Donald Roth, 61, of Sheridan, Wyo., passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital.
Steve was born Feb. 10, 1952, to Charles and Betty Jean Roth in Sandusky, where he was raised.
He met his future wife Gerilyn Sekela while attending Bowling Green State University and they were married on Oct. 25, 1975, in Youngstown, Ohio. They had one child, a daughter Lindsay. At Bowling Green he received his B.A. degree in social psychology and in statistics. He also received his master's degree in psychology and worked on his Ph.D. He only had his thesis to complete. The family moved to Sheridan in 1992 where Steve started the SIP program for NWMH.
Steve enjoyed gardening, growing violets, fly fishing, photograghy, was a history buff, loved music, and played several instruments. He loved spending time with his daughter and granddaughters, visiting with friends and visiting with his family in Ohio. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the Elks Lodge and the Masonic Lodge No. 8. Steve was instrumental in starting and promoting the soup kitchen or as its known today, Lunch Together. He also worked for Jeffrey C. Wardle Academy in Cheyenne, Wyo., JDC in Casper, Wyo., CEC in Casper, NSI in Sheridan, Sheridan Manor as social services director, teaching at Sheridan College and having his own private practice.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Charles.
He is survived by his wife, Geri Roth, of Sheridan; his daughter, Lindsay Roth-Carson, of Sandusky; his mother, Betty Jean Roth, of Sandusky; and his granddaughters, Mercedes Ann Carson and Mandela Twila Carson, of Sandusky.
A visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Kane Funeral Home, Sheridan. Services for Steve will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. The Rev. John Inserra will officiate. Interment will be in the Masonic Lodge No. 8 Cemetery with graveside rites. A luncheon reception will follow at St. Peter's parish hall.
