Peter Lopez, of Huron, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, in Admiral’s Point Nursing and Rehab, Huron, under the care of Stein Hospice.
Peter was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Bastrop, Texas. He served in the USAAF from 1943-45, receiving an honorable discharge.
He married Theresa Bender on Aug. 1, 1953, in St. Anthony’s Church in Detroit. He graduated from the University of Detroit in 1954 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He started at Ford Steel Division on Nov. 30, 1953. He served a foreign assignment as plant engineering manager in Mexico City to install a foundry from Jan. 1, 1964, to June 22, 1966, when he moved to Huron. He retired from Ford as plant engineering manager of the Sandusky Plant on March 1, 1987.
He was an avid golfer and bowler. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron, where he was very active in the church community.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa; his children, Kathy (Brad) Hummel, of Columbus, Linda Bachman, of San Antonio, Peter (Roberta) Lopez, of Sandusky, Robert (Janine) Lopez, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Mary Brothers, of Escondido, Calif., Margaret Green, of Columbus, and Michael (Holly) Lopez, of Hillsdale, Ill.; and 16 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eudoxio and Francisca Lopez; two brothers; and eight sisters.
Friends may call 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main St., Huron. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron. The Rev. Jeffery Sikorski will officiate.
