Crispin Rene "JR." Ortiz Jr., 66, of Huron, passed away after a lengthy illness late Saturday evening, April 13, 2013, surrounded by his family in Admiral's Pointe, Huron.
He was born on July 8, 1946, in Alice, Texas, the son of Crispin Rene and Zulema (Orta) Ortiz Sr.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War. Rene was a self-employed appliance repairman which he had done for many years. He loved watching NASCAR and the Dallas Cowboys. Rene was a former member of the American Legion Post 83.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Debra J. (Clawson) Ortiz; his children, Heidi Lynn (Jeremy) Brown, Crispin Rene Ortiz III, Jeremy W. (Danielle) Ortiz, Brian L. Ortiz, Louis N. Ortiz; step-son, Robert Wicker; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers and sisters, Diana (Gary) London, Ramiro (Rita) Ortiz, Guadalupe (Ken Williamson) Reyna, Marianne (Gary Hobbs) Schlatter, Joseph (Linda) Ortiz, Andrea (Richard) Burnside, Olivia Lenz, Alice (Timothy) Berarducci, Diamond (Jerry) Isaac; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two nephews.
At his request no visitation will be held and cremation has taken place. Private graveside services will be held in Christy Chapel Cemetery, in Gypsum, Ohio. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard, Sandusky.
The family would like to invite you to a "Celebration of "JR.'s" Life," at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at American Legion Post 83, 3615 Hayes Ave., Sandusky.
