James D. Grodi, 68, of Port Clinton, passed away Monday, April 15, 2013, in his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
James was born on Sept. 2, 1944, in Port Clinton, the son of Clarence “Cracker” and Charlotta (Wendt) Grodi. On April 23, 1965, in St. John Lutheran Church, he married Connie Grover and she survives.
James worked as an equipment operator for Masonry Construction, Port Clinton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Vietnam War. James was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, the Oak Harbor Conservation Club, Portage River Rats Canoe Club and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, camping, fishing, and amateur radio. James loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Connie Grodi; son, Michael J. (Tara) Grodi; daughter, Dawn (John) Salyers; and grandchildren, Collin, Shaina, Eryn, and Aubree.
James was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, James D. Grodi Jr.; and sister, Janet Minke.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be private in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton.
Memorial donations in memory of James may be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Association of Toledo, Port Clinton Fire Department, or Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
