Geraldine "Gerry" Florence Smith, 88, passed away March 14, 2013, in Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania, Ohio.
She was born March 7, 1925, to Edward and Viola Kaman. Gerry grew up in Sandusky and graduated from Sandusky High School in 1943. She married William "Hap" L. Smith June 5, 1943, and he preceded her in death Jan. 12, 1988.
A stay-at-home mother of four, Gerry was devoted to raising her children and caring for ailing friends and relatives. She was a member of Holy Angels Church in Sandusky, where she sang in the Holy Angels Choir and choral society, and served as the cafeteria manager of Holy Angels School.
She moved to Toledo in 1994, and joined Blessed Sacrament Church where she volunteered at the parish office and was a member of the bereavement and senior groups. She was well known by everyone at Blessed Sacrament as “Gramma Gerry."
She loved bus trips, going to shows, playing cards, reading, and attending her grandchildren's various activities. She will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul who knew the true meaning of love, and that always gave 100 percent of herself to her friends and family.
Gerry is survived by her sons, Daniel L. (Linda) Smith, and David L. (Linda) Smith; daughter, Lori M. (Bill) Noltner; grandchildren, Laura Petit, Lee Smith, Chad O’Donnell, Kelly Poggiali, Kim Edwards, Carey Smith, Bill O' Donnell, Michael O'Donnell, David O’Donnell, Emilee Noltner, Zachary Noltner, Sarah Noltner, and Damon Noltner; great-grandchildren, Tyson Smith, Montana Smith, Connor Smith, Lani Petit, Erin O'Donnell, Sean O' Donnell, Ryan O' Donnell, Grace Edwards, Maggie Edwards, Brady Edwards, Sal Poggiali, Sydney Smith, Peyton Smith, David Graves, Derek Graves, and Annabel O'Donnell.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Diane L. O'Donnell; brother, Edward; and sister, Eileen.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Ansberg-west Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave., Toledo, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7 p.m. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at the funeral home. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church.
