LoyBelle (Wisdom) Poole, 82, of Sandusky died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
She was born June 20, 1927, in Cleveland and became a lifelong resident of Sandusky. LoyBelle graduated from Sandusky High School in 1944 and was the first married student admitted to Providence School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1962. She was employed at Sandusky Philco plant, followed by the Erie Army Depot in Port Clinton; and she worked for Providence Hospital as a registered nurse for 37 years.
LoyBelle was a member of Second Baptist Church, Sandusky. She was active in the community, serving as Chairperson for the Counseling and Growth Center, Chairperson of the Goodwill Board, was a member of the State Theatre Board, President of the Black Business and Professional Women, a member of Bayshore Counseling Board, was a Red Cross Volunteer, a member of the Senior Center Board, and was a graduate of Sandusky LEADS Program.
LoyBelle is survived by her sons, Charles Wesley Poole of Sandusky, Clarence Leon Poole Jr. of West Chester, Pa., William N. Poole of Seattle and John D. Poole of Elyria; three granddaughters, Kylie, Sierra, and Shelby; one great-granddaughter, Lexiana; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Leon Poole Sr., whom she married January 14, 1950; her father, Loyal Wisdom; her mother, Sarah (Scott) Towles; and a sister, Nancy Tate.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 10:30 Monday with the Rev. Bobby Langdon officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
