Dr. Elvin C. Feltman Jr.

Dr. Elvin C. Feltman Jr., of Howard, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.

Elvin was born July 22, 1925, in Salem, N.J., to Elvin and Ruth (Watson) Feltman Sr.

The oldest of four children, Elvin began a life of hard work at a very young age. He worked for several years as a Seventh-day Adventist minister, then in his 30s went back to school to become a dentist. In addition to his dedication to providing excellent dental care, Elvin was very active in several professional, church, and community organizations. 

Elvin served as a past president of the Ohio Academy of General Denistry; was a member of the International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists, National Academy of General Dentistry, Academy of Dentistry International, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy; and was chairman or participated in numerous committees of these organizations. Over a number of years, he served in several different church leadership positions and was very active with Habitat for Humanity. Elvin was a past president of the Milan Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Advisory Board for EHOVE Joint Vocational School, and after he retired, worked as a consultant inspecting dental offices.

Elvin is survived by his sons, David Feltman, of California, John (Karen) Feltman, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Don (Becky) Feltman, of Virginia; his stepchildren, Sandra Richards, of Mount Vernon, Jayne (Dr. James) Todd, of Georgia, Captain Alan (Marina) White, of Tennessee; a sister, Esther Smith, of California, a brother, Wilmer Feltman, of Arkansas; grandchildren, Kevin, Ryan, and Justin Feltman, Barbara Richards Carroll, Missy Todd Bowlin, Carrie Todd Patrick, Tim Todd and Abigail and Sam White; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Feltman; second wife, Icyle Feltman; parents; and brother, Jim Feltman.

Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Sunday April 14,  at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 15. Pastor Ken Springer and Pastor Fred Shoemaker will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Elvin’s name to Habitat for Humanity, 201 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
