Mrs. Shirley Ethel Daisey Penn, 86, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in Catawba Valley Medical Center.
She was born March 8, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Lora and Florence Murray Daisey. She had been a member of the Blackstone Homemakers Club (Lenoir, N.C.), a volunteer at the Kings Creek Nutrition Site (Lenoir), a volunteer at Catawba Valley Medical Center and an active member of the Republican Party (Sandusky).
Mrs. Penn enjoyed gardening, bird watching, quilting and crocheting and was an avid reader. Devoted to her family, she had a great sense of humor, and she loved advising and helping others.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald Pennher; parents; and three sisters, Peggy Daisey, Eileen Guldner and Helen Gordon.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis Penn, of Raleigh, N.C., and Doug Penn of Granite Falls, N.C.; two daughters, Shelly Penn Madrid, of Hickory, and Lisa Penn Dias and husband, Ken, of Nantucket Island, Ma.; a brother, Edward Daisey, of Dedham, Mass.; a sister, Dorothy Monahan, of Sun City, Fla.: a sister-in-law, Irene McGookey, of Sandusky; three grandchildren, Melanie Powers. of South Bend, Wis., Allison Zegadlo, of Pasadena, Md., and Daisey Dias, of Nantucket Island; and a great-granddaughter, Riley Power, of South Bend.
A family service will be Friday, April 12, at Catawba Funerals and Cremations by Pastor Jeff Lindsay.
