Thomas L. McClain, 87, of Norwalk, died Monday, April 8, 2013, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
He was born Jan. 29, 1926, in Cleveland, and lived in the Norwalk area most of his life.
Tom was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a 1943 graduate of St. Paul High School. He served in the U.S Marine Corps from February 1943 to February 1946 with the 9th AAA BN 1st Provisional Brigade at the occupation of Rota Island in 1946 and on Midway and Guam, in the South Pacific, from February of 1944-46.
He was the former secretary/treasurer of Mack Insurance Agency in Norwalk; was a coach for 20 years at St. Paul High School; was a sportscaster for WLKR Radio for 17 years; and was an affiliate of Norwalk Raceway Park. Tom was founder and life member of the Marine Corps League, Mackin Detachment No. 837, of Norwalk; was a life member of Firelands Post 2743 VFW, Norwalk; a life member of Ken Bur Bell Post 41 American Legion, Norwalk; a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 626; and was a life member and co-founder of the Firelands Civil War Roundtable.
He enjoyed golf and scuba diving.
Tom is survived by his brother, Eugene Mack, of Sandusky; several loving nieces and nephews; and several loving great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Mack, and adopted parents, Edward and Winifred McClain; his brother, Charles Mack; his sisters, Dorothy Mack, Mildred Laible and Mary Ellen Koechley.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W.t Main St., Norwalk. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk. The Rev. Frank Kehres will officiate. Internment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Bellevue.
