Richard Louis Schuster, 87, formerly of Monroe, Mich., passed away March 2, 2013, in The Villages, Fla.
Mr. Schuster was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Sandusky, to Alfred and Wanetta Schuster. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joyce “Peggy” Roth.
He is survived by his wife Pauline; son, Tom (Pam) Schuster, of Toledo; daughter, Vicki (Robert) Braun, of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; son, Bob (Peggy) Schuster, of Petersburg, Mich.; stepdaughter, Jeanne Ringler, of Elyria; stepson, Jamie (Roxana) Davison, of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Ron Roth.
Dick was a graduate of Sandusky High School, Class of 1944. He proudly served his country in Europe during World War II as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne division of the Army. After serving in the war, he worked in the steel casting industry as an engineer and raised his family in Ohio and Michigan. He retired from National Castings, Toledo, in 1990.
Dick enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer. He scored a hole-in-one eight times. He and Pauline also served on many mission trips, volunteered at the Humane Society of Sumter County, Fla., and fostered dogs. He was a man who always had a kind word and a smile who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dick was a member of Fairway Christian Church in The Villages., where a memorial service took place in March. A final farewell with military honors will be private. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green, Ohio.
